Who can get a library card from Hagerstown Jefferson Twp Public Library?
Almost anyone. A variety of different cards and account types are available based on where you live. To apply for a library card, you will need to provide proof of residency as well as a completed application form. Click here to view acceptable proofs of residency. You can fill out the application form or get one at HJTPL.
- Green Card/Resident, full access Account – Residents of Jefferson Township*, Wayne Co., Indiana are eligible for a free account. First-time cards are free. Replacements for lost cards cost $2. A resident, full access account allows you to borrow materials from the Hagerstown Public Library as well as all libraries that are part of the Evergreen Indiana consortium. Click here to see a list of other Evergreen Indiana libraries. Individuals with resident accounts may also borrow downloadable books from the eIndiana Digital Consortium, called Libby. Full-access accounts must be renewed every two years at no charge.
- Green Card/Non-resident, full access account – Individuals residing in an area of Indiana not served by a library may apply for this type of account. The annual application fee is $65. Individuals with a HJTPL non-resident card have the same borrowing privileges as residents including access to all of Evergreen Indiana and the eIndiana Digital Consortium. Non-resident accounts must be renewed annually at the non-resident rate.
- Blue Card/Reciprocal borrower, limited access account – Individuals residing in certain Wayne Co., Indiana townships or in those libraries participating in the state-wide reciprocal borrowing program are eligible to apply for this type of account. Reciprocal borrowers have access to the physical holdings of HJTPL, but may not borrow digital holdings or items only available through Evergreen Indiana. Individuals seeking a reciprocal borrower card MUST have a library card from their home library. A home library is defined as the library that serves your taxing district. In the case of Wayne reciprocal borrowers, this home library is nearly always Morrisson-Reeves Library. Reciprocal borrower accounts must be renewed annually at no charge. First-time cards are free. Replacements for lost or stolen cards are $2.
- Blue Card/Student Account – Students of the Nettlecreek School Corporation that do not qualify for a reciprocal borrower card may apply for a student card. Student cards have the same borrowing privileges as reciprocal borrower cards and must be renewed annually at no charge. First-time cards are free. Replacements for lost or stolen cards are $2.
*Residents of Center, Jackson, or Washington Township in Wayne Co., Indiana or the Town of Dublin, Indiana should apply for an Evergreen Indiana resident card at their local library. This card will provide these residents with access to the HJTPL physical holdings.
