On September 13 - 19, Hagerstown Library will be participating in "Get Outside the Lines," an initiative to reintroduce public libraries to their communities. We're working on a big art project as part of #GetOTL, but we want to introduce you to MORE of what the library does and is committed to doing.
Public libraries, along with museums, have long been that place associated with informal learning. Did you know that over a person's lifespan only about 20% of their knowledge comes from "formal learning" or learning in a school setting? That means that those places involved in informal learning really need to take their roles seriously. Hagerstown Library does.
On September 19, we're not only getting outside the lines of what people think about libraries. We're getting outside in general.
Join us as we participate in International Observe the Moon Night at 8:00 p.m. at the Dr. Miller Memorial Park across the library. We will have telescopes set up, sky mapping activities, and Moon Pies (to eat...who doesn't like Moon Pies?) on a first come, first serve basis. ... See MoreSee Less

WAY TO GO, SCHOLASTIC CHALLENGE READERS -- YOUR RECORD HAS CLIMBED TO 202,439 MINUTES! You are doing a remarkable job this summer. With 5 days to go in the challenge, keep logging those minutes. Let's see how high we can go! Be sure to stop by the library for prizes this week, too! (Pictured below: The newest member of our library team, Heather Murray, proudly points to your minutes on the achievement thermometer. You can also see the thermometer rise daily at www.pickfordlibrary.org.)
